What is Editor X?
Editor X is a web design platform created by Wix, a company renowned for its user-friendly interface and ease of use. With features catering to both amateur designers and seasoned professionals, Editor X enables users to create fully responsive websites that look great on different devices and breakpoints.
Getting Started With Editor X
To create a new site with Editor X, go to Wix's website and follow these simple steps:
1. Choose the platform, in this case, it will be Editor X.
2. Select the type of website you want to create or skip this step and choose a blank template to start from scratch.
After you've selected a blank template, the Editor X dashboard will open, displaying a blank canvas where you can begin building your website.
Understanding the Dashboard
Upon opening Editor X, you'll see a canvas with a header at the top, a footer at the bottom, and a section in the middle. In contrast to the classic Wix editor, there are no pre-defined lines to confine your content. This freedom allows you to place elements anywhere on the canvas and adjust them to fit different breakpoints manually.
Working With Breakpoints
Speaking of breakpoints, they play a vital role in the responsiveness of your website. Editor X has three primary breakpoints to ensure your website looks great on various devices:
1. Desktop: The breakpoint for larger screens, such as laptops and desktops.
2. Tablet: The breakpoint for medium-sized screens, such as iPads and other tablets.
3. Mobile: The breakpoint for smaller screens, such as smartphones.
These breakpoints allow you to customize how elements appear on different devices, ensuring that your website looks fantastic no matter the screen size.
Adding Elements to Your Website
To get started, you can select any pre-built elements from the left sidebar, such as text, images, buttons, or galleries. Drag and drop these elements onto your canvas and arrange them as you see fit.
Customizing these elements is easy too. For example, you can change the typography, color, and look of text elements within the properties panel, ensuring you have complete control over your website's design.
Creating Responsive Designs
One of the key reasons you'll love Editor X is its focus on responsive design. This means that your website will automatically adapt to the viewer's screen size, ensuring a great user experience no matter the device they're using.
To create responsive designs, you'll need to ensure your elements look good on all breakpoints. Editor X makes this simple by allowing you to switch between breakpoints using the top toolbar. As you switch, make sure your elements are adapting as you intended, and if they're not, tweak them until they work just right.
