Wix Editor X vs Squarespace Fluid Engine (is it actually better?)

Wix Editor X vs Squarespace Fluid Engine (is it actually better?)

As someone who has been using Squarespace exclusively for almost 10 years to build websites, I've been curious about Wix Editor X for some time. With the recent release of Squarespace's new Fluid Engine, I thought this would be the perfect moment to put these two powerful website builders to the test and see how they compare.

In this blog post, I will share my personal experience and observations as a non-designer, exploring both platforms from a functional and user-friendly perspective. So, if you're also considering Wix Editor X or Squarespace and are wondering which one is best for your website building endeavors, keep reading!

Before we go any further, I would like to introduce you to Live Learning by Editor X, a platform offering monthly NoCode Design Challenges with Prizes! But for now, let's dive into the comparison between Wix Editor X and Squarespace Fluid Engine.

Squarespace Fluid Engine: A Quick Overview

First, let's take a look at Squarespace Fluid Engine. Having recently explored its functionality, I was pleasantly surprised by the new improvements compared to the traditional Squarespace editor.

Fluid Engine allows for more freedom when it comes to designing the layout of a webpage, thanks to the ability to add blocks and overlap them with other elements on the page. However, one limitation I noticed is that you cannot drag a block from one section to another easily.

When it comes to designing for different devices, the Fluid Engine lets you customize your site for desktop and mobile, but there's currently no dedicated option for tablet customization as of July 21st, 2022. Overall, the Fluid Engine does offer considerable improvements, making it easier for users to create engaging and visually appealing websites on Squarespace.

Wix Editor X: A Fresh Perspective

Now, let's turn our attention to Wix Editor X. As a first-time user, my experience navigating through the platform was both insightful and intriguing. Here are some of the key takeaways from my exploration:

!Wix Editor X

1. Editor X offers a high level of flexibility for designing the layout of a page, with the ability to add, drag, and overlap elements seamlessly. This design freedom can be incredibly helpful, especially if you're looking to create a website that stands out from the crowd.

2. When it comes to device compatibility, Wix Editor X wins hands down. You can customize your site specifically for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, ensuring a perfect user experience regardless of the platform used to view your site.

3. One impressive feature of Wix Editor X is the use of CSS Grid. This means you can create grid-based designs with ease, providing a more structured approach to building web pages and giving you even more control over responsive design.

Final Thoughts: Which Website Builder Should You Choose?

Having had a chance to experience both Wix Editor X and Squarespace Fluid Engine for myself, I believe that choosing between them ultimately comes down to your personal preferences and project requirements.

If you're looking for an intuitive website building experience with a focus on easy customization for various devices, Wix Editor X is likely the better choice. With its dedicated options for tablet and mobile customization, as well as extensive design capabilities, Editor X gives you the power to create visually stunning websites that adapt seamlessly to different platforms.

On the other hand, if you're a long-time Squarespace user who's comfortable with the platform and its features, Fluid Engine could be just what you need to take your website designs to the next level. The improved design freedom offered by Fluid Engine makes it a great choice for creating engaging websites while staying within the familiar Squarespace ecosystem.
